About

The late Graham Barker was responsible for all of the website content. Graham was a writer who strayed unwittingly on to invention territory in 1983. He helped run Calderdale Innovation Centre (1982-88), the first UK innovation resource specifically for inventors. He was responsible for evaluating and researching upwards of six thousand invention ideas from all over the world.

Graham wrote several editions of A Better Mousetrap: the Business of Invention, a highly regarded manual for first-time innovators that breaks invention down into a logical, step-by-step process. Special editions were commissioned by BP and The Open University. He also wrote guides to invention for organisations including the Design Council, National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), and the European Patent Academy.

Why make such a website?
To bring your idea to life and to profit from it can be a long and weary road with many pitfalls. As an inventor you can get advice but it will cost you! This website was constructed by Patrick Reynolds under Graham's guidance to help inventors evaluate, protect, develop and profit from their ideas.

The website includes 10 defined projects that will help any inventor with the initial determination of the originality of their idea all the way through to obtaining a licensing agreement with a company. Armed with the knowledge of the process of invention you will be in a much better place to make informed decisions and not to make the most obvious (and costly) mistakes.
